    Make sure that your MINI model and your mobile devices meet the requirements to use the functions of the MINI Digital Key.

    2. START WITH THE SETUP CARD.

    Hold the Setup Card to your smartphone or scan the QR code on the back. Download the My MINI App and create your MINI ID.

    3. APPROVE IT WITH THE SETUP CARD

    During set-up, hold the Setup Card to your smartphone once more and follow the instructions to begin pairing it with your MINI.

Don’t have a setup key? Here is how to setup your Digital Key using the MyMINI App:

  1. Download the My MINI app from your app store, then follow the prompts on the app to register your profile and link for vehicle.
  2. Within the My MINI app go to your vehicle overview, select Vehicle Configuration, then MINI Digital Key. Follow the setup guide and you are ready to go.

Your  MINI welcomes you as soon as you approach the vehicle. This function switches on the lights, starts a welcome animation and unlocks the doors. Inside, your personal MINI ID profile settings are already loaded.

Personalise the MINI Digital Key for each user. Depending on the model and device, you can flexibly adapt rights and roles, from keys with the full range of functions to restricted access. From full-featured keys to restricted access. For example, sharing a Digital Key with limited rights with a learner driver means you can reduce the acceleration and maximum speed.

Whether your MINI is in the workshop for a service, you're using valet parking or you unexpectedly break down, the Service Card is your additional key for these situations. Always keep the deactivated card with you in your MINI. If you need it, place the Service Card on the smartphone tray. After a quick confirmation, it's active, even without an internet connection.

Digital Key.

The Digital Key Plus is a digital vehicle key on your compatible smartphone (iOS or Android) or Apple Watch that allows you to conveniently and securely unlock or lock and start your new MINI without having to remove the device from your pocket. The Digital Key Plus is available as optional equipment with “Comfort Access” (SA 322) in conjunction with “Teleservices” (6AE). Using the “Ultra-Wideband” (UWB) radio technology, your MINI recognises from where you are approaching and how far away you are. As soon as you are about three metres away, your MINI starts to wake up and signals this with a welcome scenario using the lighting outside and inside. During boarding, the personal settings are loaded to your driver profile (MINI ID) and your smartphone is connected via Bluetooth®. A welcome screen on the central instrument (“MINI Interaction Unit”) with a personal greeting, suggestions for activating or setting up services, or information about vehicle functions or available upgrades. Please note: The MINI Digital Key with a limited range of functions is available as an alternative, depending on the country of delivery and mobile device.
Depending on the country of delivery and mobile device, you can unlock or lock and start your MINI using the MINI Digital Key Plus or the MINI Digital Key on your compatible smartphone or Apple Watch. While the MINI Digital Key Plus transmits data via “Ultra-Wideband” (UWB) and Bluetooth®, your vehicle uses the “Near Field Communication” (NFC) wireless standard for the MINI Digital Key. To unlock or lock your vehicle with the MINI Digital Key, you must hold your mobile device against the door handle. The MINI Digital Key Plus automatically unlocks your vehicle as soon as you approach it, starts a welcome scenario and activates all vehicle start functions. With the MINI Digital Key, you must place your mobile device in the smartphone tray to start the engine. In conjunction with the MINI Digital Key Plus, it is sufficient for your mobile device to be located in the passenger compartment. Information on the availability of the MINI Digital Key Plus or MINI Digital Key in the a specific countryof delivery and compatible mobile devices can be found in our FAQs.
To set up the Digital Key for the first time, you need both vehicle keys in the passenger compartment and the engine of your MINI must be switched off. Your MINI's SIM card requires a mobile connection. Your mobile device must be compatible with the MINI Digital Key Plus (Ultra-Wideband Technology) or MINI Digital Key (Near Field Communication) and your MINI must be added to your MINI ID in the MINI App. Open the MINI App and select: “Vehicle” (tab) > “Digital Key Plus” > “Set up your Digital Key” and follow the instructions in the MINI App and in the central instrument of your MINI. The digital key is stored in your smartphone's wallet app. Please note: The availability and range of functions of the Digital Key may vary depending on the country of delivery, model and equipment of your MINI, and on the model and software version of your smartphone. Your digital key is securely stored on your smartphone's Secure Element. In addition, both Near Field Communication (NFC) and Ultra Broadband Technology (UWB) are used to determine the immediate proximity of sender and receiver in a forgery-proof manner.

You can also use your smartphone to unlock, lock, and start when the device needs to be charged. When your smartphone's battery is very low, it goes into power saving mode. With the right setting, you can still use it as a key for several hours.

When activated for sharing a key, the following functions are generally restricted: acceleration is reduced and the maximum speed is limited to about 145 km/h. In addition, vehicle safety systems such as DSC and DTC cannot be deactivated by the driver. The maximum sound volume is reduced to around 65%.
The Key Card is an NFC card that acts as a vehicle key independently of your Digital Key on the smartphone. It comes deactivated with your vehicle, and can be activated or deactivated as required. It is particularly useful if a servicing is required or for parking services. The Key Card is activated with a classic vehicle key or an active digital key via the smartphone tray. An active key card should never be left in the vehicle.

¹ All functions shown on this page are only fully available with the MINI Digital Key Plus. The MINI Digital Key enables functions that are not based on automatic recognition of the mobile device when it is approached. The new setup process via the Setup Card will be available in many MINI models from July 2025. Depending on the model, automatic loading of the profile in the vehicle after activation of the digital key may not be available until November 2025.Sharing digital keys is possible in all variants, but the extended functions are initially only available for iOS devices.
